Curtis is the daughter Carmencita Ojales, a Filipina originally from Bolinao Pangasinan, and James Ernest Curtis Smith, who was an Australian attorney. Born in Yarrawonga in Victoria, Australia. Her father wed Ojales who was a Filipina from Bolinao Pangasinan in 1982. The youngest sister Jasmine was also an actor. Their father had an older half-sister called Clare who died in 2007 aged just four months, due to a heart disease.
